Our Top 3 Eco-Friendly Pillow Fills

Looking to bring an eco-friendly touch to your sleep space? With a range of comfort and support options from Purecare’s recycled fiber and all-natural pillows, you can experience quality sleep without sacrificing sustainability.

There are so many things to consider when shopping for a new pillow. The size, the cover, the loft level, the support—but have you ever stopped to think about sustainability when it comes to your pillow? Purecare’s wide range of premium pillows offers everything you’d look for in a high-quality pillow, with various options for every type of sleeper. Plus, if you're looking to create a more eco-friendly sleep space, we’re also proud to share our recycled and all-natural pillow fills.

Recycled Fiber Pillows

Purecare’s down alternative fill, Identically Down™, is made using recycled materials. The polyester fiber fill is recycled mostly from what is known as “Consumer PET” (or Polyethylene Terephthalate). This includes single-use food packaging plastic materials, such as water bottles, soda bottles, and condiment containers, and this type of plastic is one of the most commonly recycled plastics across the globe. When this type of plastic is recycled, it can be transformed into various materials to create new products more sustainably.

How is Recycled Fiber Made?

So, how do we go from our favorite bottle of soda into a soft, comfortable pillow? It’s easier than you might think!

Step 1: Full Plastic Bottles - Recycled consumer PET materials are collected and thoroughly washed.

Step 2: Chipped Plastic Pieces - The plastic materials are chopped and ground up into small flakes.

Step 3: Raw Fiber Material - The small plastic flakes are melted down to create a resin that is formed into usable fibers.

Step 4: Recycled Polyester Fiber - The recycled fibers are combined, processed, treated, and fluffed to create soft fiber fill for pillows.

All of our recycled polyester fiber pillows are filled and finished at the Purecare headquarters in Phoenix, AZ. To see how our pillows are made from here, explore our blog post, “Behind the Scenes: Premium Pillows Made in the USA.”

What Does Recycled Fiber Feel Like?

Due to the steps taken above, you won’t be able to tell the difference between a recycled fiber fill and a regular fiber fill inside your pillow. Our Identically Down™ down alternative fiber offers the soft, cloudlike feel of a traditional down pillow while providing a more hypoallergenic, easy-to-clean option. The soft puffs also provide extra breathability for a more refreshing sleep space.

All-Natural Pillows

Along with our recycled fiber, we also provide a selection of all-natural fills, such as down and Merino wool. These pillows offer a soft, plush cushion of comfort while providing a more natural, eco-friendly solution for your sleep space.

Down Pillows

Down pillows are made from the feathers and fluffy undercoating of feathers for super-soft, cradling support. While down is known for being cozy and insulating, the feathers also provide an airy lightness. The luxurious, reliable comfort that comes from this all-natural fill makes it a top choice among many sleepers. Purecare’s Cooling Down Complete Pillow also includes a down-proof liner to avoid feathers from poking out of the cover while keeping the fill consistently supportive throughout.

Merino Wool Pillows

When it comes to natural pillow fills, wool is another popular pick. Wool provides soft & reliable support that gently cradles the head while you sleep. The biggest drawback of traditional wool is its extremely warm, insulating features, which often lead to hot sleep and sweaty nights. That’s why our Dr. Weil All Seasons Wool Pillow uses Merino wool that has a finer texture with thermoregulating, moisture-wicking benefits for year-round comfort.
